It has been previously suggested that statins could ease symptoms in patients already diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The study from Maccabi Healthcare Services Research Institute suggests more than that -- statins can stop the development of rheumatoid arthritis.Specifically, researchers determined people taking statins were 50% less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis compared to people not taking statins. Larger clinical trials are needed to confirm the findings, according to the report in BBCNews.
